Ragging is unsocial, illegal and punishable: The cause of indulging in ragging is deriving a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by the seniors over their juniors or freshers.

The following is termed as the act of Ragging:

Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which student will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student.

The following will also be considered as an act of Ragging:


    • Crossing the limits of decency, morality and humanity.
    • Acts of indiscipline and misbehavior.
    • To ask or answer vulgar questions.
    • To do menial jobs for the seniors.
    • To force to drink alcohol, scalding tea/coffee, smoking, etc.

Punishment


    1. Teasing, Embarrassing and Humiliating Imprisonment upto 6 months or fine up to Rs.1,000/- or both
    2. Assaulting or using criminal force or criminal intimidation. Imprisonment up to 1 year or fine up to Rs.2,000/- or both
    3. Wrongfully restraining or confining or causing hurt Imprisonment up to 2 years or fine up to Rs.5,000/- or both
    4. Causing grievous hurt, Kidnapping or rape or committing unnatural offence Imprisonment up to 5 years or fine up to Rs.10,000/-
    5. Causing Death or abetting suicide Imprisonment up to 10 year or fine up to Rs.50,000/-

Steps taken at NSRIT to prevent Ragging:


VITS has also taken steps to formulate Anti-ragging committee within the faculty members to monitor the students who indulge in ragging and is maintaining a congenial environment to curb the menace of ragging. Ragging within or outside the campus is banned and any one indulging in Ragging will be punished appropriately, which punishment may include Expulsion from the Institution, Suspension from classes or the campus for a limited period or Fine with a public apology. The punishment may also take the shape of:

    • Withholding scholarships / fellowships or other benefits
    • Debarring from representation in events / appearing for any test or exam
    • Withholding results, and
    • Suspension / Expulsion from hostels or mess and the like.

To deal with the menace of Ragging, an Anti-Ragging Cell has been established in the college. All the cases of Ragging will be referred to this Cell for prompt and immediate action.
